How we got here.
In the spring of 2011 a team from New Life Church in Stockholm, Sweden, led by Pastor John van Dinther, visited Whittier Area Community Church where Grant and Lindsay served. John preached that weekend and the Swedish team led worship with Whittier Area’s worship team. Blending different cultures and genres of music together in worship was the start of something very beautiful. Friendships began to form between Grant and Lindsay and the Swedish visitors and their eyes were open to a new area of the world that they had previously known very little about. The Swedish team returned to Whittier in 2012 and Grant and Lindsay had the opportunity to show them around Los Angeles and build even stronger friendships with them. At this point, Grant and Lindsay were engaged and were 3 months away from their wedding day! Now that they were getting married, they knew it would be possible for them to serve in another country together, something they had talked about from early on in their relationship. Grant and Lindsay met with John van Dinther and the three of them began to dream of ways for Grant and Lindsay to serve in Stockholm. Through the generosity of Whittier Area Community Church and the welcoming love of New Life Church in Stockholm, Grant and Lindsay were given an amazing opportunity to visit Sweden in late July and early August of 2012. They met wonderful people at New Life who have a great love for God and for unreached people. Grant was able to help lead worship for two weekends and both Grant and Lindsay had the opportunity to share their testimonies at a midweek service. John had arranged for them to meet new people every day they were there, which gave them the opportunity to explore and experience Stockholm. A majority of the people in Stockholm speak English, so it was easy for them to connect with everyone they spent time with. The city of Stockholm is very beautiful, but the members of New Life Church truly made Grant and Lindsay fall in love with Stockholm and its people.
Sweden is a dark country. It is known as one of the most secular countries in the world. Although a big part of the population are members of the Lutheran church, just a small percentage visits a church regularly. New Life is planting churches and making a difference in Stockholm, and around the world. Much of their leadership team has been sent out to plant new churches in different parts of the city, so there is a great need for leaders to help keep their first location strong. Grant and Lindsay are part of that team. Grant is responsible for the public worship services as well as integration of visitors into the church. He's using his education and experience to train and build up worship leaders. Lindsay is using her experience in church communication and design to support the staff and ministries at New Life.
Grant and Lindsay are excited to see how God will continue to use them in Sweden!
